Committee Descriptions
*Please note, as we approach this unique school year due to Covid-19, St. Johns County is temporarily limiting all non-essential visitors and volunteers to school campuses, so some of these opportunities may be different or unavailable.

Apparel-  Assist in the sales and distribution of Ocean Palms apparel and spirit items.  Spirit items are 
sold and distributed at orientation and all student-based events. 
Communications- The Communications Chair is responsible for administration and maintenance of Ocean Palms  
PTO web presence. This includes creating and updating content for both the PTO Website and Facebook page.
Volunteer Coordinator – Before school goes back the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the teacher 
packets. They coordinate with teachers to collect details of class representatives.  They arrange a 
meeting with all the class volunteers to share ideas for the positions and serve as a point of information 
throughout the year. In addition, they reach out to as many families as possible to collect contact 
information for those who would like to volunteer in other areas. During the year they create a Sign-Up 
Genius for each event and send them out to the relevant volunteers.
CAAP (Children’s Access to Art Program)- This is a shared program between Ocean Palms and PVPV-Rawlings in 
which volunteers present works of art in student's classrooms throughout the year. Ocean Palm's CAAP Chairs 
oversee the recruitment and support of OPE CAAP volunteers and maintain periodic communication with them, 
usually by email. Chairs attend the training meeting at PVPV (where the collection of paintings is stored) 
and help OPE volunteers understand and fulfill their responsibilities. Individual CAAP volunteers are 
responsible for retrieving and returning prints to PVPV after use, but CAAP chairs often opt to keep a few 
paintings on hand at OPE and oversee their rotation every few weeks.
Art to Remember- Art to Remember is an art fundraising company that helps schools 
raise money for their art programs. The keepsake fundraising program is profitable, 
easy, and healthy. Minimal time commitment and step-by-step help from our friendly 
customer service team makes this school fundraiser one that you and your parents 
will want to do year after year. Students love seeing their artwork on personalized 
keepsake products.
Box Tops- Volunteers collect Box Tops from their classroom throughout the year, 
ensuring the Box Tops are correctly cut out and properly counted for submission to 
the chair.  The chair is then responsible for submission of all Box Tops to ensure 
proper credit is given to the school.
Spring Family Night - This is a fun opportunity to socialize with other OPE 
families.  Volunteers will organize and run the spring family night, including 
menu/catering, activities, etc.  If you like to plan parties, this is the role for 
Book Fair (FALL & SPRING)- Week long sales of children's books held in the fall and 
spring.  Volunteers are needed to assist children in selecting and buying books and 
set up and take down of the fairs. Book fair chairs are also responsible for 
ordering and delivering various periodicals, Sunshine State books, and books of the 
quarter to each class.
Otter Run-If you want to help get our kids healthy and fit while helping raise 
money for the school, this is the committee for you! Each classroom will have an 
Otter Run coordinator whose responsibilities include keeping your class informed 
via emails, determining a class theme and decorating a team flag with the help of 
the students, data entering donations from the class, organizing snacks for the day 
of the run, and being available on Otter Run Day.
Fall Family Night - This is a fun opportunity to socialize with other OPE families. 
Volunteers will organize and run the fall family night, including menu/catering, 
activities, etc.  If you like to plan parties, this is the role for you!!
Adult Fundraiser-  Committee members will work with event chair to plan adult fundraiser, including
live/silent auction, decorating and set-up, invitations and responses, sponsors 
and entertainment.
Fifth Grade Celebration- Organize and run the end of the year party for the 
5th grade graduating class.
Staff Appreciation- Plan a week of activities and treats for the faculty and 
staff to acknowledge them for all their hard work throughout the year.   
Coordinates volunteers to help plan and execute the days' events.
Otter Rock Coordinator- The Otter Rocks are OPE’s newest fundraiser where parents sign up to paint one 
of the Otter Rocks by the entrances to the school parking lot. Responsibilities include setting up a 
SignUp Genius for the year, addressing any questions/concerns from parents, overseeing a table at Meet 
the Teacher and Back to School night and creating/sending a Peach Jar flyer to routinely be emailed 
throughout the year.
Candy Drive for Troops / Flag Display-Students are asked to donate their excess 
Halloween candy for Treats for Troops.  Committee members will help coordinate the 
collection of the candy and delivery of the candy to Operation Gratitude. 
In addition, the chairs/committee coordinate the placement of American flags in 
the front of the school by the OPE students to show our support for veterans.
Chip in For Youth- Fundraising opportunity where The Players golf tournament offers 
us the opportunity to promote the sale of a specific tournament ticket, where $25 
of every $45 ticket purchased will benefit Ocean Palms. Volunteers are needed to 
coordinate the promotion of this program and the sale of the tickets which occur in 
Proctor Volunteers Assist in proctoring classrooms taking standardized tests in 
the spring.
